07/30/2022 – Blessed Maria Vicenta of Saint Dorothy Chavez Orozco

Blessed Maria Vicenta of Saint Dorothy Chavez Orozco or “Madre Vicentita” for short was remembered by all who knew her for her consistently calm manner.

Her attention was always on Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament, in the patient in the bed in front of her, in her religious sisters around her and in the mysteries of the rosary that passed through her never idle hands.

“Follow with a generous spirit the path of the cross; reciprocate everything as coming from the Divine Will.”With this in her heart, she took little notice of the violence and chaos of early twentieth century Mexico that surrounded her. One of her religious sisters wrote that she “ marched on with her vocation despite what was going on in the secular world. She inspires us to trust in God and do His work regardless of the noise that wants to enter our lives.” (Melanie)

Taking one step at a time, and praying one bead at a time, Madre Vicentitia established a dozen Catholic hospitals despite the anti Catholic Mexican revolution; the Cristero Rebellion and its religious persecution; a major earthquake and her own illnesses.

We too live in an uncertain time. We also like Blessed Maria Vincenta can stay calm, focused and productive. Switch off the media clamouring for our attention and instead focus on the God given work at hand, surrounding it with the peace Our Lady promised in the daily rosary.
