09/08/2021 – Happy Birthday Blessed Mother

Dia dhuit,

Today we celebrate the birthday of Our Blessed Mother. Today’s date falls nine months after her Immaculate Conception celebrated on December 8th.In our First Reading today, from the Prophet Micah, we see that in Bethlehem the long awaited descendant of King David will be born, the Messiah.Our Gospel today shows us that this child will be even greater. He will be Emmanuel, a name that means God is with us.We give thanks to Mary for her great generosity in cooperating with God’s plan for our redemption, and we ask her to help us to always do God’s will in our own lives. Maybe you can give Our Lady a gift today. Honour her in some special way. Perhaps a visit to a grotto, or a church to venerate an image or statue of her, or perhaps light a candle at home in front of an image or statue, or pray an extra Rosary at 6pm with people all over Ireland. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
